GHG Emissions Reduction

To Our Clients, Partners, and Community:

At Object Systems International, we recognize the urgent need for decisive climate action and the critical role that businesses of all sizes—including ours—must play in reducing global greenhouse gas emissions.

We are a small, international software development company with approximately 100 employees worldwide. While our operational footprint is modest compared to large enterprises, we believe our efforts can still make a meaningful difference.

We are committed to aligning with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the 1.5°C pathway defined by climate science. Although we are currently in the process of developing a complete greenhouse gas inventory, we are already implementing concrete measures to reduce our environmental impact. These efforts support our broader goals of a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. To help us in this effort, we are using the simplified EPA GHG Emissions Calculator (https://www.epa.gov/climateleadership/simplified-ghg-emissions-calculator).

Pre-2025 GHG emissions reduction projects that we have completed include:

  • Fleet electrification (scope 1 and 3 reduction): We replaced all gasoline company vehicles with three compressed natural gas (CNG) and one hybrid (gas-electric) vehicle, and we later replaced those with two fully electric vehicles to reduce our footprint and align with renewable energy sources. We also installed three EV charging stations at our US office to encourage EV adoption by employees and contractors, two of whom have done so.
  • Building efficiency (scope 1 and 2 reduction): We replaced fluorescent and incandescent lighting at our two US sites with energy-efficient LED lighting. At one facility, we also installed new window coverings to better regulate indoor temperatures and reduce HVAC usage. At our other facility, we replaced four HVAC systems with higher-efficiency systems.
  • Flexible work practices (scope 3 reduction): We transitioned to a primarily remote workforce, reducing commuting-related emissions.
  • Water conservation, part 1 (scope 2 and 3 reduction): At one site, we replaced a large portion of our traditional landscaping with xeriscaping and installed a smart sprinkler controller to reduce water usage.

In 2025, we are continuing our sustainability efforts with the following improvements:

  • Water conservation, part 2 (scope 2 and 3 reduction): At a second site, we converted to xeriscaping and installed a smart sprinkler controller to further reduce water usage.
  • Lawncare electrification (scope 1 reduction): We switched from a gasoline lawn mower to an electric lawnmower at our primary site to maintain the minimal grassy areas required by municipal regulations.
  • Paper reduction (scope 3 reduction): We reduced our paper usage by approximately 90% by transitioning to digital documentation and adopting paperless workflows across our US operation.
  • Smart climate control (scope 1 and 2 reduction): We are replacing thermostats with smart thermostats at both US facilities to improve energy efficiency and reduce heating- and cooling-related emissions.

These efforts reflect our ongoing commitment to reducing our climate impact and contributing meaningfully to a more sustainable future. We look forward to announcing our 2026 sustainability initiatives at the end of this year and continuing to share our progress.

Sincerely,
